Alumni mentoring requirements
The Alumni mentors will be selected from alumni volunteers recruited in fall of the school term and from mentors who continue from the previous mentoring cycle.
The Alumni mentor responsibilities are:
- Completing the Alumni questionnaire prior to the kickoff meeting.
- Reviewing the example goals templates prior to attending the Mentor kickoff meeting.
- The Alumni mentor will attend the Mentor kickoff meeting.
- The Mentor will work with his undergrad mentee to finalize the mentoring goals at the Mentoring Workshop.
- The Alumni mentor will take an active responsibility to keep the progress on track towards the goals to successful completion of the Mentoring program.
- The Alumnus commitment will be a weekly phone call and a will each give active a minimum of 2 hours a month to communicate with the undergraduate. The mentor pair is encouraged to meet face to face several times during each of the three mentoring periods.
- The Alumni mentor will provide listen and provide mentoring guidance towards the identified undergrad goals. If questions or resources are required beyond the skills of the Alumni Mentor, the Mentor Advisory Board can be engaged for assistance. (for example a DU brother who has experience in a specific area)
- The Alumni mentor will take the necessary steps to engage the undergraduate during the first few quarters of their active status, to build the relationship, proactively request a resume, etc.
- The Alumni mentor will provide general advice on college, life, etc. as requested by their undergraduate mentee.
- The Alumni mentor will provide feedback at the end of each Mentor period to their assigned Mentor Coach to improve the program. The questionnaire will provide feedback on their mentoring experience, what are the most valued aspects of the relationship, how often the mentor pair communicated (and how) and what they think could help strengthened the relationship and what can be improved.
